Our Trustees
Charity co-founders, Gary and Naomi, have over 20 years experience of working in the field of education and human rights in Nigeria. Gary has spent 16 of these years working specifically on witchcraft beliefs and human rights and is considered as one of the leading international experts in this field. Naomi is a widely experienced educationalist with a particular passion for early years education and teacher training.
They are proud to say that all of Safe Child Africa's Nigerian partners are now close family friends of theirs and some have even given them the honour of naming their children after them.
They were then joined by Dr Louise Jolly in 2010, who initially worked as an intern with them. In 2012, the three of them set up a new not-for-profit organisation, Universal Learning Solutions, to scale the Jolly Phonics project that Safe Child Africa had initiated across Nigeria and the wider African continent. Over 200,000 teachers have been trained since then, making this the largest literacy project in Africa.
“Together, we are proud and humbled to support the incredible work of
Safe Child Africa and its inspirational partners.”
